Sometimes You Get What You Wish For

Like when I wished our daughter and granddaughter lived closer to us and they ended up living WITH us for 3 years! A blessing and a curse. I was just saying to Mel this morning how much I enjoy being on the ship. I spend time reading, I have read 12 books so far, and knitting while watching movies. We have long dinners with lively conversation about what we each did in port the day before. Or showing the things we bought and sometimes sharing them. It is a leisurely pace and very enjoyable. However, those port days are very necessary for an outstanding cruise. I write about port days, not sea days! But as of today, we have six days at sea ahead. There is yet another typhoon that is going to affect us. Our next port, Yap, Micronesia, is going to take a direct hit the day before we were scheduled to arrive. The capt said we would experience 20 foot seas and heavy winds, including the port day. If the winds were too strong, we wouldn't be able to dock anyway. While I love when the ship rocks and rolls a bit there are a lot of elderly passengers on board. It would be uncomfortable and dangerous for them. I know the decision is probably the right one, but missing Yap is very disappointing. Mel had arranged a snorkeling trip for 24! It is really too bad we will not make it there. On other occasions when we had to skip ports for various reasons, an alternative was given like 2 nights in Manila instead of one. This time they found no acceptable alternative so we will just stay at sea until our next port in 6 days. A bit too much of a good thing. We have 6 days at sea after our last port before reaching LA but that will give us needed time to pack. These 6 days at sea are not what we would hope for. Oh well, guess I will finish yet another book.
